Week 8! Halfway There!

Wrapping up week 8 and getting ready for midterms! My studio group has been having meetings it seems every other day, I’m constantly mumbling korean everywhere I go, and I’ve been downloading lots of movies. I’m going a little stir crazy here on campus, so today I spent the day browsing through 10 levels of shops at Lotte Mall after trying to study korean for a bit outside. In my studio we have been working on concept models and preliminary drawings for the development of an international market in the Jagalchi district. Our goal is to revitalize the area by … Continue reading Week 8! Halfway There!

Week 7!

Crazy to think I’ve been here 7 weeks! This past week the Busan International Film Festival was still going on so this week I went and saw a film from from Turkey/Germany. The main “red carpet” location for the film festival was in Centum City, which is pretty much the most developed business area within Busan. It’s also home to the largest department store with over 15 levels of stores. We’re starting to get close to midterms here now, so I’ve got a few projects coming up and have had a few tests. Studio is still a bit tough working … Continue reading Week 7!

Week 6!

Week six passed by pretty quick. Had my first Korean Diction test, watched another movie in my film class, and did some studio design work. This past week I’ve also been working on a presentation with a group for the International Camp +. We did a neighborhood visit during the beginning of a typhoon and it took my tennis shoes three days to completely dry out. The International Film festival is still going on and I hope to make it out there this week! All the plans I had to try and go over this past week fell through for … Continue reading Week 6!

Week 5!

So this week has been busy, busy. I’ve felt a little overwhelmed at times this week because I couldn’t see myself getting everything done. But I made it to the end of week 5 and I’m ready to rest and prepare for another busy week. This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend International Camp + which is a student interaction program sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Korean Youth Work Agency. It pushes korean and international students to work together on a presentation project over a topic. This weekend was the camps … Continue reading Week 5!

Week 4!

It’s the end of my fourth week here in Busan and it ended with a typhoon after a week of perfectly sunny days. It’s been in the 70’s all week and I don’t think it’ll get above 80 again the rest of the time I’m here. Pray for this Texas girl who is used to summer till mid-end of October. Classes have been interesting here so far. My studio class is still presenting me some challenges but I’m working through them. My film class and world studies class have been great so far. Both the professors are from America and … Continue reading Week 4!

Week Three!

This week was the Korean Holiday Chuseok, so naturally during the second week of class we had two days off. On Wednesday, the International Exchange Office put on a Chuseok Feast for al the international students at Dongseo. They had different types of rice puffs, fish cakes, eggs with corn, and an odd broth like drink. I’m proud to say I tried everything. That’s all I’m gonna say. They even gave us cute little rice cakes as well, which were filled with red bean. After the feast, the Welcoming Ceremony commenced where we heard welcoming remarks from the President of … Continue reading Week Three!

Week Two!

Wrapping up week two with a typhoon! Honestly the weather reminds me of Lubbock right now, overly windy with only a sprinkle here and there. So nothing I can’t handle. This second week brought on the first week of classes and course registration. It’s been a completely different experience registering for classes over here. Not all the classes are offered in English, so we have been given a list of International College classes that we are offered to take that will be taught in English. Though none of the Architecture Department courses fall under this college and are not taught … Continue reading Week Two!

Week One!

Crazy to think that I’ve already been in South Korea for almost one whole week! This week has brought on a lot of walking (I love on a mountain), lots of different foods, and new people. We had an exchange student orientation yesterday and there I met some girls from Russia and Mexico here studying language through the International College. There are over 300 new exchange students here at Dongseo this semester from over 30 different countries! The largest groups seems to be from China and Japan, but there are people from Brazil, Finland, Canada, and the Philippines here as … Continue reading Week One!

T- 5 Hours Till Departure

Today’s the day. This is it. My flight leaves at 10:57 am, so say some big prayers for Jonah and I as we head out! We’ve been in the car about 10-15 minutes and all my sisters are already knocked out asleep, my dad is passed out in the front, and my mom is working on her coffee as she drives. The sky is just beginning to get light. Think I’ll miss those West Texas sunsets the most. I’m thankful for the friends and the family who have loved me harder this week and made this “See you later” the … Continue reading T- 5 Hours Till Departure

Going Abroad!

August 19, 2019 I am officially less than one week out from heading to South Korea, so better late than never to start my blog before I leave! I’ll be using this platform to primarily keep all my friends and family updated on all my adventures in South Korea, the exciting things about Architecture I’ll be learning, and all the different types of food I’ll be trying! As per my family’s request, I’ll also be trying to post lots of photos. If you know me, you know that’s gonna be a challenge for me. I can’t wait to share all … Continue reading Going Abroad!
